Restrore Your Appearence with Acne Clinics

Wednesday, August 20, 2008

For many people the battle against acne is an easy one. They are able to make a quick trip to the pharmacy or local store and pick up Neutrogena multi vitamin acne treatment or any other over the counter acne treatment and be done with it. But dealing with acne is not that easy for some people. Those who struggle with severe acne tend to go up the ranks of treatment to prescription drugs then seek the help of acne clinics.

If you have tried everything from homemade acne treatments such as honey and apple masks, as well as most of the over the counter items that you've found on the store shelves, it may be time to call in a little extra help in your fight against the outbreaks. While your general doctor may be able to offer a prescription or two, often those don't work well on severe acne cases, and you need to see professionals in this arena.

At acne clinics, acne is what the deal with. That's it. That means they have seen more cases of severe acne than any general doctor would have, and also have tried more ways to treat acne, and found more successful ways, than general doctors.

For most people who visit acne clinics, they will be given a multi-faceted approach to beating their acne problem. This differs from the human intuition to try one thing at a time then move to the next when it doesn't work.

Acne clinics usually battle acne from a number of different angles"

Medicines
Lasers
Restoration
Ongoing Skin Care

Medicines - The first approach acne clinics utilize is medicines. Instead of one medicine at a time, they often offer a 2-tiered approach. The first medication will deal with the topical problems of oily skin and killing the bacteria on the surface that are causing the acne outbreaks. The second medication is an internal attack on the acne causing agents inside your body.

Lasers - Advances in technology have become advances in treatment at today's acne clinics. Using a laser on acne prone areas, the glands that are over-producing oil, encouraging acne outbreaks, are controlled. Additionally the heat of the laser can help in killing off acne-causing bacteria.

Restoration - Eventually you will be at the top of your uphill battle against acne, but probably still have scars and blemishes from those old outbreaks. This is where restoration comes in. Acne clinics are experienced in the methods to restore your skin to look clear again.

Ongoing Skin Care - After all the work you have put in to get your skin back to the way you remember it before acne struck, you want to be able to keep it that way. Acne clinics often offer education in ongoing skin care as well as facial therapies that you can receive at the facility to keep your skin acne-free in the years to come.

Unlike the old days when those with severe cases of acne had to live with the consequences, today's acne clinics have a number of new tools at their disposal to help you gain the upper hand over your acne problem and remove it from your life.

The Basic Secret Control Your Acne

Wednesday, August 13, 2008

The essential methods of acne control are to keep pores from getting clogged, unclog infected pores, attack the bacteria causing the infection, and reduce the redness associated with acne. There are many preventive measures that you can take to reduce the chance of having an acne breakout in the first place.

Caring for your face with a gentle washing once or twice daily using just soap and water can make all the difference in keeping your pores clear. In addition to this, applying benzoyl peroxide will aid in drying out the skin as well as cleaning it even further. Benzoyl peroxide is the active ingredient in most over the counter facial wipes such as Oxy Pads. One of the truly nice things about using benzoyl peroxide is that it can be coupled with other acne treatments.

Using exfoliation has become a common technique in acne control. The removal of dead skin cells through exfoliation can help prevent them from clogging the pores of the skin, which in turn aids in preventing acne. The skin revealed by exfoliating is new, smooth, and much more healthy looking. It is important to know, however, that many of the agents found in exfoliating products can be very irritating to your skin. Before using them on your entire face, a small area of your skin should be tested to check for any negative reactions to these agents.

You'll find that many acne products perform a dual function. They both exfoliate your skin and contain anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory medicines. Not only will this clear your skin of the dead cells, but it will also fight the bacteria associated with acne outbreaks and helps to lessen the redness due to inflammation.

Checking your acne products will reveal sulfur and azelaic acid as commonly used ingredients. It is always best to test acne products on a small patch of skin prior to using it everywhere, just to check for any adverse reaction. If you find that salicylic acid listed as one of the ingredients in acne product, you should be careful; even though salicylic acid works well in keeping your pores unclogged, it has been found to be very irritating to facial skin.

A consultation with a dermatologist may be required for the most severe cases of acne. He or she can assist you with putting together a cleansing program for you to follow. A dermatologist may also use lasers in the treatment of acne as well as prescribe acne medication. If your dermatologist does prescribe medication to aid in fighting your acne, be aware that most acne medicines are quite powerful and can even be toxic. You need to warned of any possible side effects and be alert to them if they do occur.

Not everyone needs to see a dermatologist for their acne condition. For some people the over the counter treatments are just fine and work great. If they solve your acne problem you will avoid the expense and dangers of taking prescription acne medications into your body, and suffer possible negative side effects.
